The plot varies but it usually has an element of the Fantastic or Weird about it. I <em>love</em> applying plots from other genres to SF/F and playing around with tropes (eg. drama/slice-of-life/mystery/thriller/horror). As I get older I find myself preferring the struggles of older protagonists and broader casts of characters. For fanfiction, I tend to either write 'fix-it' stuff for works I don't even like that much, or romance and erotica.<br /><br /><strong>What I don't write: </strong>Straight romance. Drama in a 'mundane' setting. Anything relentlessly bleak and grimdark. For fanfic, I won't write stuff along the lines of ABO and mpreg, anything underage or incest, gore, fetish stuff.&nbsp;<br /><br /><strong>What I read:</strong> Big fan of stuff in the vein of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams, so <em>Rivers of London</em> is my jam. Spec-fic with an unusual bent - <em>Gormenghast,</em> China Mieville, <em>Mortal Engines</em>, there was this whole series about sky pirates I loved as a kid which I can't remember the name of... Will always love Ursula LeGuin for giving me <em>A Wizard of Earthsea</em> as a child. Shades of horror (<em>Dracula.</em>) I like Lovecraft <em>in theory</em> for the ideas he spawned, in practice... no. Mystery with an historical feel (ACD Holmes, Christie, Sayers, Chesterton...) I also really love comedy along the lines of P.G. Wodehouse and <em>Cold Comfort Farm. </em>Right now I'm big into nonfiction (science stuff, medical). Interested in reading more magical realism, and more LGBT romance with a happy ending.<br /><br /><strong>What I don't read:</strong> not as much SF/F these days, ironically. I became a picky reader at the age of 10 after I burned out on fantasy. Am very &quot;over&quot; <em>The Hero's Journey</em>, though I can appreciate its usefulness as a learning tool and have used it myself. My own journal doesn't have much aside from self-indulgent things, and I can be terribly shy, but I'm very enthusiastic about the UI on Dreamwidth so I want more friends here. At the moment I'm enthusiastic about a movie which had an active fandom three years ago (welp), I'm very opinionated though I'm trying to be less abrasive about it, and sometimes I also webdesign but with questionable results.<br /><br /><b>About My Journal</b>: It's mostly for fandom-related things that aren't fics, recs, or for others. The most interesting thing on it is probably my <a href="https://aroceu.dreamwidth.org/10968.html">all time favorites rec list</a>. I do have a Dreamwidth for actual journaling, but I keep up with my feed here and I want to spice up my flist. <br /><br /><b>What I Write</b>: Fiction, romance, fanfiction of course. I really like mixing drama and humor; sometimes there's angst or friendship. I'm not very good at worldbuilding/sci-fi type things though, mostly because I don't think I have the practiced imagination for it.<br /><br /><b>What I Don't Write</b>: I abide by the philosophy that I should try everything at least once. So so <i>far</i> I have not tried supernatural type stories or horror stories, although I definitely hope to one day.<br /><br /><b>What I Read</b>: Everything! Well, am willing to, anyway. What I like to read is fantasy, YA, romance (LGBT especially), mystery, and of course comedy again.<br /><br /><b>What I Don't Read</b>: Again, I don't think I really have the imagination for sci-fi. Although I do like Star Wars. But I haven't tried it very much, so if anyone has recs to get a noob like me into the genre... <br /><br /><b>Could I Edit Someone Else's Work</b>: Yes, I can.
